Well, big day for the masked bandits…the little rascals had managed to let themselves out of their compound two weeks ago, and were free ranging in the berry patches on our property. I would leave food out at night for them, and, while I would never see them, the food would be gone by morning. So I baited up the live traps and lo and behold, they were full of masked bandits yesterday.
I had picked a suitable release spot where I knew raccoons already existed and reasonably close to where they were picked up. Raccoons should never be introduced into areas where they do not already occupy as they can be a destructive predator on native species.
My blog would have included photos, but they would only show a grey blur as the little rascals darted to freedom.
